DB Series 01.10 for TS 20xx
From 1937 on the former Deutsche Reichsbahn put 55 3-cylinder locomotives into service for running heavy express trains. The outbreak of WW2 thwarted the planned delivery of 250 of these streamlined locomotives. This cladding was removed after 1945, and in 1953 it was decided to replace all boilers by new construction. Towards the end of the fifties 34 engines were converted to oil-firing. After that they belonged to the most powerful German steam locomotives. Until the end of 1974 their serviceable number had been greatly reduced, but no less than 10 engines have survived (still round 18 pct. of all construction) – all of them as preserved locomotives in good maintenance condition. At this moment, two of them are serviceable (UEF 01 1066 and SSN 01 1075) and some of them are being prepared for full restoration. One loco, no. 01 1063 has become a memorial in front of the Braunschweig Central Station.

Der Kriegsausbruch unterband die geplante Lieferung von 250 dieser Stromlinien-Lokomotiven. Nach 1945 wurde zunächst einmal die Vollverkleidung entfernt. 1953 entschloss man sich zum Einbau neuer Kessel. Ende der fünfziger Jahre begann die DB damit, insgesamt 34 Loks auf Ölfeuerung umzurüsten. Nach diesem Umbau zählten sie zu den stärksten deutschen Dampflokomotiven. Bis zum Ende des Jahres 1974 schrumpfte der Einsatzbestand auf 8 Maschinen des Bw Rheine. Glücklicherweise blieben 10 Lokomotiven erhalten (also immerhin etwa 18 % aller gebauten Lokomotiven) – alle Exemplare als Museumslokomotiven, welche sich in gepflegtem Zustand befinden. Zwei der Maschinen sind derzeit betriebsfähig (01 1066 der UEF und 01 1075 der SSN) und bei drei weiteren laufen die Vorbereitungen zur Wiederinbetriebnahme (01 1100 des DB Museum, sowie 01 1102 und 01 1104). Eine Lokomotive, die 01 1063, dient als Denkmallokomotive vor dem Hauptbahnhof Braunschweig.

Vanaf 1937 stelde de toenmalige Deutsche Reichsbahn 55 3-cilinderloks voor het zware sneltreinverkeer in dienst. Het uitbreken van de oorlog verhinderde de geplande levering van 250 van deze stroomlijn-locomotieven. Na 1945 werd eerst deze bekleding verwijderd. In 1953 werd besloten om nieuwe ketels in te bouwen. Aan het einde van de jaren 50 werden 34 exemplaren voor het stoken met zware olie omgebouwd waardoor ze tot de sterkste Duitse stoomloks konden worden gerekend. Tot eind 1974 nam het bestand van dienstvaardige machines af tot 8 loks van het Bw Rheine en werden de laatste exemplaren nog voor het einde van de Duitse stoomtijd in 1977 terzijde gesteld. Desondanks zijn niet minder dan 10 exemplaren als museumloks bewaard gebleven (nog altijd 18% van de totale productie) in goed onderhouden conditie. Op dit moment zijn twee machines nog bedrijfsvaardig (UEF 01 1066 en SSN 01 075), terwijl voorbereidingen worden getroffen voor een volledige restauratie van andere machines. De 01 1063 is als monument opgesteld voor het Hauptbahnhof van Braunschweig.
